Task lighting for instance will enable you to make the most use of spaces that are not used often by turning them into study, reading, or work areas.

Updating a room need not be expensive, and one cost-effective way to do that is to replace your window treatments. Black and white curtains for instance will lend a touch of sophistication to your room. Since they are neutral, black and white curtains can be mixed and matched with other design elements easily.

Change throw pillow covers to update your living room or have an old sofa reupholstered so it looks brand new. More often than not, these would be more pocket-friendly than purchasing a brand new set. If you really want to change your sofa, but don’t want to spend too much consider getting used ones sold in thrift stores. Some sanding and a fresh coat of paint will make that old furniture look more valuable than how much you bought it for.

Keep in mind though that when purchasing items required for your home improvement project, don’t decide solely on price. Evaluate for quality and durability. They may be cheap to buy at the outset, but if you need to replace them often and sooner than you expect, this will only offset any savings you’ve made previously. Also, put in some elbow grease into the project so you will save on labor costs. Involve the rest of your family so that the renovation can be completed faster.
